I had wondered just exactly how I was going to get the ceiling boards installed myself… I mean, yeah, there are ways… but they all seemed like an immense amount of work to do solo. Naturally, then, I invited my long-time friend John (seriously, we met in 1990, when some of you weren’t even born) … Continue reading Deadbugasana
As I’m boarding up the interior, I have been using the router with a flush trim bit to make the window openings in the boards. This works great when there is framing around the windows, which there is for ordinary windows. However, there is NOT for these light ports because the glass blocks are as … Continue reading Light Port Routes
Rather a lot of progress is captured in this single photo. This is the partition wall for the bathroom, at long last. What has happened to make this possible is:– the bulk of the in-ceiling gray water tank has been built– the ceiling has been boarded up– the walls have been boarded up– measurements for … Continue reading Finally, I Got to Build the Wall
Most of today’s work on the HomeBox (I only had a few hours this weekend) was spent finishing the “sub ceiling” for what will become the bathroom and entry way. Remember the in-ceiling tank? It’s in there, now mostly hidden except for the drain trunk, upper left. That drain line will soon get a plug … Continue reading Bathroom Ceiling
Today’s goal was simple: install the bathroom partition wall. You can see the foot of the wall laid out on the subfloor here. Just copy this on the ceiling, measure for the studs, install, done, right? Right. No. First, there’s the matter of the tub corner (against wall, left). Looking at the layout, I wasn’t … Continue reading I Just Wanted to Build a Wall…
So I had this crazy idea: what if I used the empty space between the rafters over the bathroom to store my gray water, rather than taking up precious *usable* storage space with a big tank somewhere? The most rational way to use the intra-rafter space would be to run some pipes and gang them … Continue reading Tanks!
This weekend’s work featured quite a lot of difficult angle cutting to finish siding the Snout. Also, it now has doors. Or, as I like to call them, “Nostrildoormus”. They can smell the future. I have materials to do some “roofing” on it, as well – not deployed yet. I need to get some galvanized … Continue reading More Propane Porchness & Patchwork Door
Nearly all of the work done on the homebox has been by my own two hands. A couple of times, I was lucky enough to have a helper or two for a day to get a challenging task (raising walls, installing roof rafters). Today, it was the rarest day of all: I didn’t do any … Continue reading Spray It!
Those black boxes are actually sheet metal wheel covers, not unlike the wheel wells you might have in the interior of your automobile. They’re definitely not suitable for bearing weight and anyway, they’ve got the insulating properties of 1/8″ of steel (i.e., none). To address both of these shortcomings, I present to you: wheel boxen. … Continue reading Wheel Boxes & Propane Porch Progress
